How do I prevent excess pagination in Word?

I'm working on a 100 page document with many text boxes in Office 2000.
Occasionally my document starts formatting thousands of unwanted pages. When
I try to stop it, it requires that I go to normal view, but I need print
view. Help!

Runaway pagination is usually a sign of document corruption. See
