How do I prevent hyperlink coding from appearing in Word doc?

When I hyperlink text in a Word 2003 doc, the hyperlink coding is showing up
in my document instead of just highlighting/underlining the text that I want
hyperlink. It looks like this, for example: {HYPERLINK "www.google.com"}. I
can't find the setting to change this. Wierd thing is, I've been merrily
hyperlinking for months and this suddenly happened and now happens in all my
word docs.
