How do I prevent text from overlapping in Word XP?

After I type a document, when I select the print icon, all of the text on
each line 'piles up' on top of other text. Each line of text ends up in a
jumble on the left side of the page. The document will print this way, but
if I select and copy the entire document to a new document, it will show as
normal.

We've seen a lot of reports of this and no specific solution, just a lot of
guesses that the problem must be in the printer driver.

I doubt it is the printer driver. I have had this same problem on multiple
different printers and have received e-mails from other with the same
problems who also have different printers. What printer do you have?

Hi Cameron,

This (rather old 02June) thread you tied to was the only
time been reported for Word 2002 that I've seen.

Up to now it has been Word 2003, as discussed in the
other thread on 'print scrunching'. The only thing I've found
so far that removes the problem is to have any Word
left over temp files cleared out prior to starting a
Word session using
~$*.*;*.tmp
as the search string

According to MVP Bob Buckland, it is caused by Word temporarily losing track
of the printer driver. His recommendation is to open the Print dialog,
change printers, then change back. Later, clear out your temp files.
