How do I publish an existing calendar in Sharepoint?

I have a calendar with an email address that is for our division. I can't
figure out how to publish this with categories in Sharepoint. Any
suggestions?

What I would do: create the calendar in Sharepoint and connect it to
outlook. Move all the public folder events to the sharepoint folder in
outlook so they will sync up to the sharepoint server. Assign the PF email
address to the sharepoint calendar so events can be emailed to it or, if I
needed both for some reason (or the mail domain for sps was different than
for the public folders), set up the PF to forward the events to sharepoint.

Hi Diane, just to make sure I understand, are you saying the only way to use
an existing calendar is to do this via rules, sending invites to another
calendar that was created in Sharepoint?

Yes. AFAIK, the only way to sync with sharepoint is using the sharepoint
pst. You can't link public folders or personal folders to sharepoint
calendars. (You can export but then sharepoint won’t update)

There may be 3rd party tools that will allow syncing, but I don't know of
any.

I am able to export an Putlook Calendar to an xls. Do the required junk in excel (select the cells to import, click insert->name->define, create name range for selected cells. I then go to Sharepoint (2003) and click create->import Spreadsheet. Once the data is imported the resulting list looks good. I then go and create a Calendar view of the list, which is not an issue, but when I go to view the calendar all of the scheduled events appear on the same calendar day (the day the list was imported). The thing is, all of the dates in the actual list appear to be correct. Now when I go to modify the list there is nothing that lets me determine which field the list data should be displayed according to.

Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

I would verify the dates are actually dates (not text) and are imported into
the date field, not another field or ignored completely.

What I would do: create the calendar in Sharepoint and connect it to
outlook. Move all the public folder events to the sharepoint folder in
outlook so they will sync up to the sharepoint server. Assign the PF email
address to the sharepoint calendar so events can be emailed to it or, if I
needed both for some reason (or the mail domain for sps was different than
for the public folders), set up the PF to forward the events to sharepoint.

Right click on the PF, choose properties. On the admin tab choose folder
assistant and set up a forwarding rule.

I am assuming that this is done in Exchange System Manager and not Outlook as
there is no admin tab available in Outlook.
Bummer if you are not the Exchange administrator but are the Sharepoint
admin for a specific SharePoint site.

Also will the forwarding work for items put directly in the public folder
calendar (not sent through email)? Also since the SharePoint calendar is not
associated with an email address nor do I see how to associate it, how would
you create the forward? Would it be to the URL of the SharePoint Calendar?

It's in Outlook - you need to be folder owner though. Calendar items
created in the folder would be mailed - and the SPS calendar needs an
address for it to work. URLs will not work. You will need to have the sps
site email enabled.
