H&Fs were added to address a specific problem, so they have some
limitations. Depending on how you are using your H&Fs, a background page
will be more versatile.
A background page is the original and most versatile way of adding common
information to pages. The information can be static or reflect information
from the foreground page it is attached to (page name, page #).
Early in Visio's life cycle H&Fs were added to address a common request.
Users wanted to have page numbers and titles on each page when a Visio
drawing page was larger than the paper size it was printed on and the
drawing printed over several pages. The type of information that can be
included on a H or F is limited and if the Visio drawing page is the same
size as the paper then a background page is the prefered option.
If there is not a one to one relationship between drainw and physical page,
it is possible to emulate H&Fs with a background page. The background page
has to be divided into areas for the individual physical pages and the H&F
information repeated for each area.
