Installed Word 2000 under XP Home with SP2 and all updates.
Got an error during install about a missing item in the registry
but installation completed and Word appears to work just fine.
I immediately went to Microsoft Office Update, it passed
"am I legal", and I successfully downloaded and installed all
the bug patches with no errors during any of this.
But starting various applications now triggers the install
process three or four times for something related to Word,
with not a clue what each of the install processes are
trying to install, and searching each of the generated log
files appears to give no clue what is trying to be installed.
If I instead repeatedly click Cancel I can finally get the
application to work.
If I give it the Word CD each of these attempted installs
fail with errors that are mentioned on the Microsoft web
pages related to 1919 error.
So I start searching the net and find a flood of people with
the problem and many with claimed fixes.
Microsoft claims this can be because Word Perfect was
uninstalled.
This doesn't apply.
Microsoft claims this can be because clipart for Word is set
to run from CD.
Tried this fix, I don't believe it was, and it makes no difference.
Microsoft claims this can be fixed by running MDAC.
This refuses to run because SP2 has been installed and there
does not appear to be any method of doing this post-SP2.
Tried "This will fix it for sure"
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\odbcconf.exe /F C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\odbcconf.rsp
There are warnings about a variety of things that this can
break. After doing this anyway the problem is exactly the
same.
Microsoft claims that if you have an identical computer with
a working Word you can try copying parts of the registry
from that computer, but warns of th range of problems that
can result from trying this.
I don't have an identical machine with Word installed.
One Microsoft web page claims that installing it again will
just reproduce the error.
So how do I really fix this problem?
Thank you
