How do I receive information submitted through a Web form?

S

sarahkclark

I am having trouble with my forms. When I click "Submit" an error page comes
up. The data entered through the Web form is apparently not being sent to
the proper file location.

Hi,
The above link does not work but I too am having the same problem. When I go
to form properties, it asks for an email address...there seems to be not much
rocket science involved..I put in the email address I wish for the form to go
to, but then it comes up with an error !! Why? I am able to send an email to
the same address from hotmail. Help pls !

ah but there is a tad bit of rocket science;

1- Your web site host has to have FrontPage Server Extensions (FPSE)
installed and working - your website does not have them.
2- If they were installed and working you would have to publish via the http
method (not FTP) - and the use of ftp usually breaks the extensions.
3- Your host has to allow the use of FP's form handler.

You can still to it without FPSE...but that IS rocket science :)

Take a few minutes and scan the recent posts and you will save yourself a
lot of time. This question is asked at least every other day.

Rob, I'm not a rocket scientist but I could do it in just a couple of
minutes, and I don't use Pub as my primary web page creating program.
Not trying to knock users of Pub, but by and large, it seems many of the
people who post here seem to require a lot of hand-holding and have
never heard of Google.

Hi,

Thanks for the info. As always there is another question. I have spoken to
my Hosting Company, and they say that the site does support FP extensions,
and they are turned on. So far so good. I then read the article in Archive,
and that looks good too, with the extra info supplied here. So where's the
prob?
Well, I understand that I need to publish the site but using http. That
sounded fine..until I went to publish, and looked at how I could publish
using http. However, everytime I tried to type in http:// it would report
that it could only be published via ftp...which is the way I originally
published the page. So... how do you actually publish using http, and still
publish through publisher? When you click 'publish to web' you are asked to
'Save in' but you are unable to type a hhtp location here, yet are also
unable to find one..just ftp...you know the rest!
Or does it have to be uploaded to the site directly..and if this is the
case, how do I do this?
Thanks

Sorry for that earlier post..have uploaded it using http, but the form still
doesn't work. Also tried using the "checker" page ie
www.malthousedentalcentre.co.uk/_vti_inf.html
and this does come up with a page suggesting that the FPSE are working. So
now what?
thanks

I just tried the form on
http://www.malthousedentalcentre.co.uk/index_files/Page308.htm and it
submitted ok.

DavidF

As you originally uploaded using FTP, that probably means the FPSE are
corrupt.

Whoops...I started to answer the question one way, and then actually tested

The form seems to be working ok now.

BTW typing; www.malthousedentalcentre.co.uk/_vti_inf.html does NOT
indicate that the extensions are working...only that they are installed.
