How do I ref displayed text in formulas?

When a user enters text on a shape, I need to refer to that text value is a
cell formula. "Export to Database" calls it "Shape.Text" but I can't get that
to work in a formula in a cell. Help? thanks,

Thanks, but I don't think this is what I need. If a user drags & drops a
process shape and then types the text "Start machine", I want to assign this
same text to a custom property. Can you help? thanks,
