How do I remove an "autoline"?

I was working on a document, and wanted to mark my place. I did so by going
to an empty line and typing **********.

When I pressed return, Word replaced the liine with a thick dashed line. No
problem, I thought. At least I'll know where I left off. Now I am editing the
document again, and I can't get rid of this line. I have made a bunch of
other changes, so I would rather not go through the entire undo chain and
lose the other changes that I have made.

You are automatically creating a border line. This can be deleted by select
the paragraph mark above and below the line and delete. (use Ctrl+Shft+8 to
toggle the non-printing characters)
The option to stop this is under Insert, Autotext, Autoformat as you type,
Border Lines.

FYI, Shft+F5 will take you to your last point of edit, even after document
and PC shutdown.

This is for 2003 and prior, maybe different for 2007.

This seems to work if I create a new border line (or even if I copy the one
that I originally created), but I still can't delete the first one. I even
tried putting a page break before and after the line, selecting the entire
page, and deleting. The line simply moves to the page after the page I
inserted.

I found the solution. Go to the line above the border line and select
Format...Borders and Shading. Turn off the border that has been added to the
line. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction, Dean.
