How do I remove line breaks to form a smooth paragraph?

I am creating a collection of historical documents that are being pasted into
Word from the Project Guttenburg website. Unfortunately, the line breaks
from the PG website are transported into Word, resulting in a jagged
appearance along the right side of the text and difficulties if I wish to
change the format (for instance by putting it into columns(.

Does anyone know of a macro or other procedure to remove the line breaks
within a block of text, replacing them with spaces?
