How do I remove the arrows which appear on all slides?

In the lower left-hand corner, 4 icons appear: a left arrow, a pencil, a
rectangle, and a right arrow. Sometimes they disappear, sometimes not. How
can I prevent them from appearing so students will not use them for
navigating through a Powerpoint learning sequence? I want them only to use
the buttons I create.

This is a tool that not everyone needs (including myself). Go to TOOLS >>
OPTIONS >> the VIEW tab >> and uncheck the SHOW POPUP TOOLBAR option.
