how do i remove the filter that prevents repeating a character

i held down a key for too long, and a popup asked if i wanted to set a
filter. i wasnt sure and clicked yes. now i can't repeat the same letter
twice and can't use backspace to delete characters. i also hear a click when
i type a character that wasnt there before. how do i reset or remove this
filter?

Go to the Windows Control Panel and open the Accessibility Options
icon. There are three items there: StickyKeys, FilterKeys, and
ToggleKeys. The one you accidentally turned on is FilterKeys. Uncheck
its box. To prevent any more surprises, click each of the three
Settings buttons and uncheck the "Use shortcut" boxes.

The backspace problem is probably something else. In Word, go to the
Tools > Options > Edit dialog and make sure the "Typing replaces
selection" box is checked.
