How do I renumber footnotes when editing has left gaps in the seq.

I edited (added and removed) footnotes in my document using Track
Changes--when I finished, I realized that the automatic numbering left gaps
in the sequence of numbers in the footnotes, and I can't seem to get the
numbers straight again (without having to potentially delete and recopy every
footnote in the document). Does anyone out there have any ideas on this one?

The footnote numbers probably won't be correct until you accept all
tracked changes, press Ctrl+A to select all of the text in the document,
and press F9 to update the fields in the document.
