How do I replace " with a . after hitting a wrong key?

I am using Windows XP and Word and when I hit a wrong key, the the functions
of certain keys change. For example, a period (.) becomes a quote ("). I
haven't a clue as to which key caused this change because I am a touch-typer
and the damage is done with out me seeing the keys. I have checked everywhere
and cannot find the appropriate response. I just want the keys to enter what
they represent.

You're evidently switching keyboard layouts to a different language. Check
the settings in Control Panel | Regional Options | Keyboard or Control
Panel | Keyboard. On the Input Locales tab, click Change... In the resulting
Text Services dialog, click Key Settings and remove any shortcut key
assignment for "Switch between input languages."

Knowledge is a wonderful thing. I owe you one. Dinner at the St. Clair Inn
restaurant or The Voyager, both overlooking the St. Clair River. Let me know
whenever you're in town. Thanks.

Sorry, I forgot to include the state. St. Clair, Michigan. It's about 60
miles north of Detroit. But a lot of tourists come through here. Offer still
holds if you get up this way.
