Hi Tex,
If you're referring to the 'size' in the non-greyed
portion of the ruler that's the distance between the
margins (page size less the sizes in File=>Page Setup
for left/right/top/bottom.
If your left and right margins are set at 0.75" then
when the total of 1.5" is subtracted from an 8.5"
page width, you're left with 7.0" usable inches within
the margins.
If you use the Print Layout view and turn on Text Boundaries
in Tools=>Options=>View and set the zoom to 'page width'
do the rulers match the margins?

My rulers say that a 8.5 by 11 page is 7 by 9.5/ Page Setup shows the correct
size.
How do I get correct ruler settings. I uninstalled and reinstalled and got
the Same thing...including a number "1" on the opening page. >>
