How do I reset shortcuts to insert Spanish symbols in Windows XP?

I have recently lost my shortcuts to Spanish language symbols, e.g., accented
a, accented e, n with a tilde, etc. in Word and Publisher. I have also
noticed this in Outlook and Outlook Express and especially with certain
fonts. How do I recapture my old shortcuts to symbols or program new ones?
I do not know how I lost them and would love to know.

If you were using something other than the standard keyings that come
with Word, you can recreate them by showing Insert > Symbol, selecting
each character, and Assigning a Shortcut to it at the bottom of the
panel.

On a normal US English keyboard, you get all the accents for Western
European languages this way:

Ctri+ the closest-looking keyboard character, release, and type the
letter (cap
or small): ' for acute (and the Icelandic crossed-d!), ` for grave, ,
for cedilla, / for crossed-o, ^ for circumflex, : for umlaut, ~ for
tilde (for the last three, remember to shift!)

For less often used items like ae and oe and German double-s, it's
the
&; for the Scandinavian a-ring, it's @. The Spanish punctuation marks
are Ctrl-Alt-! or ?.
