How do I restore a baseline from an offline backup?

Our baseline process includes saving a copy of the file offline as a back-up.

Unfortunately, you lose the baseline if you don't save the working file
between creating the baseline and saving the backup offline.

Is there anyway to import the entire baseline from the back-up to the file
on the server?

I'd like to know how to do this in the event that we don't save things in
the proper order or in case someone accidently clears the baseline?

Will copying and pasting all the baseline columns in the GANTT View work?

Thanks in advance for any ideas on this.

That is a good idea, which I will incorporate into our process.

However, that doesn't solve my problem of not saving the file immediately
after saving the baseline.

You see if I save the baseline and then save a copy offline the baseline
never gets saved in the active *.published.mpp file on the server. I'd like
to know if there is a way to import the baseline in the backup copy from an
offline source to the active file on the server.

Thanks,

owp3,

Here's an alternate way to save baselines. When you save a baseline also
save it to one of the other numbered baseline fields. For example when you
first save a baseline also save it to baseline1. If the baseline is reset
save it to baseline2. That way you have a baseline back-up as well as a
cronological history of baselines in case you need it.

Frankly, there is no way to easily copy a baseline from one project to
another. Therefore, given that fact, I believe your process is flawed.
Instead of using your current process, I would recommend that your Project
Server administrator to create a new Version in Project Server called
Backup. After creating your project in Project Server, and saving it in the
Project Server database, you should baseline and save the final copy of your
production version of the project (saved as the .Published version). Then,
click File - Save As and save the project as the Backup version. The Backup
copy of the project will be the complete copy of the project, including the
baseline. You can keep this backup file for safe-keeping, and it will
elminate the problems you are having with .mpp files. Hope this helps.

Thanks Dale,

You have confirmed my suspicions that there is no practical way of importing
a baseline from another file.

Our process is to save the file before creating the off-line backup. Using
the versioning feature is essentially the same thing. Either way we have to
make sure not to forget to save the .published file before making the backup.

Thanks,
