How do I restore my normal.dot template in Word?

My computer has developed the annoying habit of spontaneously rebooting when
I am in Word. When I restart Word, I get an error message asking if I want
to save changes to the Normal.dot template. It seems I must answer Yes to
this, otherwise I just end up in an annoying loop of questions that never end
until I agree to overwrite Normal.dot.
I suspect the frequent crashing is a corrupt template, so how can I get rid
of it and start again? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Word, but this
did not solve the problem.
