How do I restore the normal template in Word 2002.

Every time I open any document I get the text of an old document, that I
surmise must have gotten saved at some point as the normal template. How do
I restore it back the the original blank document.

OPEN the Normal.dot file directly.
Remove unwanted contents.
Then SAVE Normal.dot over itself.
