I want to keep old appointments indefinetely rather than them being deleted
after a certain time period. What is the default time records are kept and
how can I change that length of time?

If you are using a stand-alone instance of Outlook, rather than Exchange
Server then they will stay indefinitely unless YOU change anything.
If you are on Exchange Server then you need to speak to your IT dept...

Gordon and all,
I'm having the same problem. All calendar items beyond two weeks in the
past have disappeared. I sync Outlook with my Blackberry but have verified
that Blackberry is set to keep appointments forever. I don't have any
history now. Any ideas?

Do you have Autoarchiving enabled?

It appears Blackberry can't solve this, but can a work around be done?

Can Outlook be made to keep the old appointments despite Blackberry trying
to delete them?

Maybe my day to day Outlook can keep 3 months, then archive everything. When
I next sync the BB, it will delete them all, but they have already been saved
in a different calendar or an archive folder. If that will work, how do I do
it?

Set the AutoArchive time to less than that of the Blackberry's delete
timer. End of problem

I am having the same problem.
I have email thru an exchange which I also receive on my Blackberry. I sync
my Blackberry with the RIM Blackberry Desktop Manager. I use Microsoft 2007.
Where do I go on Outlook and on my blackberry and is there a setting I
should set on the Desktop Manager too?
Finally, is there a way for me to restore the calendar items that have
disappeared? They are not in my deleted folder or Archive folder.
What steps can I take to restore my calendar from a back up file?
Will you please be specific about the steps to take to fix this issue?
Is there a tech support # I can call for step by step guidance?

There's no such product as "Microsoft 2007". I'll assume you mean "Outlook
2007".

If the Blackberry deleted the even and you synched, it's probably gone for
good. If you deleted it in Outlook and then emptied the Deleted Items folder,
it's probably gone for good. If you use an Exchange mailbox, the Recover
Deleted Items feature may be able to get it back.

Why is there still no answer to this?

I've changed my auto archive to 36 months to see if appointments "go away",
but am not holding my breathe. To do that in Outlook, press Alt, T, O and
then click on Other. You'll see an Auto archive tab you can click to change
the settings.

I still would like to know that this keeps past appointments, but I guess
I'll have to wait and see.
