I overwrote a document in microsoft word with the same file name. I would
like to see the version prior to the last version. I tried going to File,
Versions but there is no list of versions there. Please tell me someone can
help me retrieve this document ??

Hi Avette -

When something like this happens you can typically recover using Undo as
long as you haven't closed the file. Once you close the file, however, there
is no way to restore to a point prior to the last save.

BTW - the Versions feature was designed to save multiple versions of a
document within the same file. However, it was so prone to causing document
corruption that the feature was discontinued in Word 2007 on the PC & in
Word 2008 on the Mac.

OK, let's start with the bad news...

Unless you set it up beforehand, you cannot get back the previous version.

In Word, go to Preferences>Save and turn on "Always make backup copy".
After you do that, the previously-saved version of a file is always just
above the real version, in the same folder, labelled "Backup of..."

However, unless you had that setting on before you over-wrote the file,
there would be nothing saved to the disk for you to go back to.'

Sorry about that!
