How do I retrieve a document that was not saved?

I was using Microsoft Word 2003 to copy and paste a document that I needed.
When I was finished doing that, for someone reason, I clicked on the "red X"
at the top right-hand corner instead of clicking the "save" icon. A message
box appeared with the question "Do you want to save changes made to
document?...yes/no" Again, for some ungodly reason, I did not click yes and
the result is my document is gone. I would like to know where to get it back
from and how to get it back.

That's a goner. If it you had deleted it, then there was a possibility of
retrieving the document, but as it was never saved and was closed orderly,
everything will have been wiped away.
