How do I schedule a 3 day task over 20 days?

I have a Task that is three days in duration. 3 sub tasks go to make it up
and they are 2 x .5d and 1 x 2d.

Starting as early as possible and finishing before Dec 14 (the deadline),
how can I schedule the task so that the resource has been assigned 3 days but
can do them in a period of between now and Dec 14??

This is driving me nuts.

Thanks for the help

Hi

enter the three subtasks under the task with the following DURATIONS
sub-task1 = 7d
sub-task2 = 6d
sub-task3 = 7d
and link them all finish / start

now display the work column and enter the following values (assuming a day
is 8hrs)
sub-task1 = 4h
sub-task2 = 4h
sub-task3 = 16h

Now select all three at once and click on the task information icon
on the resource tab, choose the resource under the resource name, click on
the next line down and then click on OK

Project should then assign them as you want.

Hi Julie,

Thanks for the reply, I have tried your method and whilst it does work, does
not reflect the whole story, there are 28 tasks in total some resources will
own 3 or more tasks others 1, when I got to scheduling them all in the whole
thing got very complicated and went awry!!

I consider myself very profficient in the MS suite but am humbled at my lack
of understanding of Project. A steep learning curve over the next few days to
get this project plan to resemble what I want it to look like and many more
months to learn the product to a profficient level.

Thank you for your time and suggestion.

Regards
