How do I search for special characters

I want to do a global find and replace in a word document that contains the
character in the middle of the following word his¬tory. It looks like
Alt+0172 but word will not find it

Search for Optional Hyphen, this is found under the More button, Special.

Thanks - it worked. However it would have been much more helpful if the
link in the microsoft notification message worked!!!
