How do I search for words, phrases in documents?

I have Word 2000 and I do a lot of writing and speaking. I want to download
various material into documents, then find a way to search for ideas from
this matertial by using key words or phrases. I tried to you "find" under
Edit and the phrase use "alphabetic letters" kept coming up? What is an
alphabetic letter? How do you locate words and ideas in documents of
information?

I appreciate suggestions anyone might have.

Thank You

Where does that phrase appear? To find something in a document, you do
select Find from the Edit menu and then enter the text that you are looking
for into the "Find what:" control on the Find dialog.
