How do I see Outlook journal item on business contact?

I have the telephone dialer create a Journal item in which I make notes
during a call. The item can be seen in the journal timeline but I cannot find
a way to see it from the Business Contact itself
Am I missing something?

Paul,

The Journal is part of the native, stand-alone Outlook application. BCM is a
separate, added in db to Outlook with its own separate "Journal" and this
folder is called Communication History. BCM and Outlook share the same UI
and can appear to be one and the same application. Look closely at the icons
within the Folder list display inside the navigation pane to see this more
clearly. You can still initiate the telephone dialer from inside of an open
BCM Business Contact record just like you can from inside of an open Outlook
Contact record. You can also select the option to create an Outlook Journal
item for the call that will be linked to the Business Contact but the journal
entry will remain in Outlook and just link across to the BCM Business Contact
item. The journal entry is not stored inside of the separate BCM data base
history. In order to "journal" directly within the BCM db, the workflow
required is to click within an open Business Contact record on the New
History button and select Phone Log.

My comments above are assuming that you are clear about the differences
between native Outlook data and BCM data. If this is not the case, I would
recommend to go through the various help tutorials, etc. There are numerous
different ways to do the same thing in both Outlook and BCM. Play around and
experiment a bit more and everything should become clear.

Thank you for your prompt reply. It answered my question although the
situation is not as convenient as I would have liked. I had figured out the
New History method but hoped there was a way to use the phone Journal. I come
from ACT! and frankly, it is easier to do many things in ACT!
Again, thank you.

I agree, Paul. Seems to me you should be able to link a journal entry to a
business contact/project/account, just like you can link an email (which is
also on the native Outlook side of things). In my case I am looking for
timer functionality (I know there's a timer in the phone log, but if I'm
timing a task that's not associated with a phone call I shouldn't have to
muck up my records by pretending it's a phone call. . .) Very frustrating.
