How do I select all of the objects in a certain area?

How do I select all of the objects in a certain area? I'm trying to edit an
object and it's all gone and ungrouped on me. is there some sort of select
thingy? I really need advice - HELP!!!!

P.S. Make it clear and understandable please!

Select the arrow tool from the Drawing toolbar. Drag a rectangle around the
lot.

In addition to what Jezebel says, if you ever want to grab just some and not
all of the objects in an odd shaped area, you can hold the shift key down and
click on the items you want to select and leave out others that you don't
want included in your group. If you accidently select one you don't want,
just click on it again (keeping the shift key down) to deselect it from your
group
