How do I serialize a gift certificate ON the actual certificate?

Thanks in advance ...
I'm aware that one can create an Excel worksheet to maintain a serialized
log of gift certificate numbers. I'm wondering whether MS Publsiher has a
way to add serial numbers and/or data attached to the log entries from such
an Excel-maintained log.

You need to use the Merge feature. Make a CSV file in Excel with the
numbers you require, and then merge that to your gift certificate. Works
very well.
When you post, always post the version of Publisher you are using, as at
times we have crystal ball failure. Mary and myself have the least amount
of failures - like one every centaury. Some like Ed and his wife Magrat
Garlick aka Sarah, Black Aliss, Cassandra, Sour Cow etc. etc. have daily
failures.

My abject apologies - and hope your failures tend to recover after apologies
returned ;)

MS Pub 2003 - very happy with it, btw.
I have used it to create website as well as maintain JPG versions of PUB
files so that non-Pub visitors to a web (such as www.creativenest.ca) can
view Art Class Flyers online.

Anyway, I actually figured out the merge feature, using Excel where I had
created a file with 100001...100099 in a column, merged it with a nice gift
certificate graphic copied 4x top-to-bottom, and even copied the serialized
numbers to each side of the certificate. looking more like currency than a
certificate.

Thanks all the same - will try a CSV file next time (smaller, I believe).
