I'm new to learning Publisher and are now doing the basic tutorials that
come with it, mainly to find out all it does I didn't know it did. And, my
usual way of jumping in and trying to do something, then figuring out how
(all the ways it doesn't work) can get time-consuming and frustrating.
I find myself up till 1am (late night it's easier to concentrate and I
get involved in it) and thinking I LOVE THIS! (practicing setting up cards
and newsletters and all the options)
I have Publisher (OFFICE) 2000. I have an older computer and WIN 98 SE,
and I don't think the newer Office will work with this.
I've been trying to print notecards, mainly to practice using some of the
graphics I've made in PhotoShop, etc. From photos I've taken. I have some
cardstock, overall size 8.5" x 5.5" Folded (tent style) 4.25"x 5.5". This
is all new to me and it seems so simple (before trying it)
Right when I got the card stock and started into this, my 6 1/2 year old
printer died and I got a new one, a LEXMARK 5150 all-in-one. At this point,
it's smarter than I am (LOL)
I can't seem to get the notecards to print the way they're set up. I put
the picture on the template and have the print setup so it looks right. I go
into print properties with the Lexmark and set the paper as cardstock, 8.5 x
5.5 have tried checking landscape or portrait (doesn't seem to matter with
results)
It prints (notecards) with the upper left side of the picture coming out
on the lower right side of the card (front) Sometimes it's on the card
more, but the picture is too big. I am setting the resolution of the picture
either 100 or 200 which is what I think it should be for printing.
I tried setting pictures at various sizes and resolutions and printing
them on a plain paper (copy paper size) and they seem to come out where I
want them and the right size.Apparently, the printer stays set for regular
size paper (8 x11 or whatever it is- printer paper size). There are buttons
on the printer to set this, and also printer properties (and also print
setup in Publisher) I think the problem is with my setting the printer (or
not setting it)
I've tried printing cards in Publisher and also PhotoShop (which came
out the best but still not on the card perfectly, was too low) I've also
put pictures on the calender templates and they come out fine. But they
print on full size paper.
I found an online tutorial for making cards with Publisher and/or
PhotoShop, but they only give the option of Canon or Epson printer when it
comes to setting that part up. It looks basically the same as mine. I've
looked in the directions book that came with mine and think I am setting it
up for the correct size paper.
I've only had this printer a week, and my previous one (Canon BJC-250)
seemed a lot simplier. If I set something up and put it in, it would print
it that way. (I didn't get to printing notecards with it, though)
I know the problem is with me- setting the printer (I'm not used to all
the settings and options)
A few days ago I gave up on this, and focused on doing the tutorials,
till I could find out more about it.
Everyone I've asked says "just set up the paper the right size and it
should work". It's probably some little thing right in front of me.
I'm subbed to a few other (topic) newsgroups and just now thought
about looking for Publisher. I'm glad there's a real group, so many topics I
put in come up with a ng, but they're not active or all porn and spam, etc.
I really love this stuff (graphics and seetting it up, etc) If I don't
watch it, I'll be doing it every waking minute and the dishes will never get
washed and the pets never get fed. Not enough time in the day/night.
I guess I'm hooked. Technology and creativity!
What, if anything I ever get to do with it, I don't know. I'm a
great-grandmother (on a limited income) and live in a rural area, and don't
have a car. Been trying to learn/get something going that I could use from
home (computer) either to earn a little money, or start a home business or
something. I know, me and a million other people. Even if I never get into
anything like that, it helps me feel productive and that I'm accomplishing
something to be learning this. Maybe that's the overall benefit of it for
me.
