How do I set up a suspense system in access

S

Sue

I'm not real familiar with access. I need a suspense system where I can
enter supplier/contact information (constant) and on each of these pages,
purchase orders with the est. shipping dates from these suppliers to me. I
need the system to notify me on the various dates to see if the shipment has
arrived. This will be a fairly extensive data base, as we are a wine
distributor. I've only been at this job one week. We have Office 2003. Can
someone direct me to info to help me set this up or offer a better solution?

Sue,

Have a look at the Northwind sample database that ships with Access, with
some modification it may do what you want, but if you're new to Access then
it won't be a two minute job!

When you say your not too familiar with Access do you mean you haven't had
any involvement? If so you would prob be best to go on a short course in
Access and VB developement. You could probably build your database on your
course as a project and with the gudence it would be killing two birds with
one stone!! :)

When did you need to have the database up and running? A solid database even
a small one could take in excess of 20+ working hours.

I would love to help so please keep any questions you have along the way
coming and will do my best to give you advice.

Good luck!!! :)

In addition to "Northwind Traders", you might find it helpful to look at
some of the example databases that you can build with the Access
Database Wizard (use File --> New, choose "Databases" tab, choose an
example database such as "Inventory Control").

The example database will probably not do exactly what you need, but
between that and Northwind, you should be able to get some good ideas.

(I also agree with "Rich Wills via AccessMonster.com" that a class or
textbook could be valuable to you, if you have time.)

Sue,

Besides the suggestions already given, you could consider outsourcing and
having the database built for you. If you decide to go this route, please
contact me. My fees are very reasonable. Over 1000 Access users have
contacted me in the past several years.

Master santos, this is definitely ambulance chasing.

These newsgroups are for free support not a vehicle for you to make money.

Out of those 1000, how many called you back with repeat business?

.... and yet you don't know how action queries behave when they run from code
or what the Do Events command does, to name but two.

Sue,

If you are still looking for a way to get this database, I can build it for
you for a very reasonable price.

Still ambulance chasing?

These newsgroups are for free support, not a means for you to make money.
Other, more qualified Access developers, understand, why can't you?
