How do I set up the Microsft Mail postoffice?

D

Donna Sanders

I currently use Outlook 2003 on my desktop at home. I also use a laptop in a
different location in my home. They are connected to a router using
BellSouth DSL. I want to be able to check my e-mail from my laptop using
Outlook.

When I try to set up Outlook on my laptop, I get a message that the
Microsoft Mail postoffice could not be found on the server? How do I
identify the correct path to the postoffice?

What version of Outlook do you have on the laptop? Unless you specifically
set one up, there is no Microsoft Mail Postoffice and no path to it; this is
an old email system created for small offices that has no Internet mail
capability and ceased to exist with WindowsME. Go to 'Control Panel|Mail'
on the laptop and remove the Microsoft Mail service from your profile. All
you should need is the Internet email service and Personal Folders (and,
perhaps, a Personal Address Book). The two machines should be set to leave
a copy of email on the server so it will be available to both, one should be
set to delete mail from the server after a period of time so it doesn't pile
up. Both machines should have your Internet email account setup.
