How do I setup a "Running Heading" for use in a TOC

Q

Questor

I want to define RunningHeading as a WORD document style, e.g. …

Running Heading The text identified by the "running heading" at left
continues on the same line as the "running heading". I want to pick up the
heading text "running heading" for use in the TOC but I don't want to capture
the text that follows (on the same and subsequent lines).

Does anyone know if/how I can do this?

Questor:

What you want is called a style separator. It's available in Word 2002 and
later, and can be approximated manually in earlier versions.

The crux of the matter is to have two paragraph styles in the same
paragraph. Character styles cannot be included in a TOC. The style separator
lets you use a paragraph style for a run-in heading.

Please see Jack Lyon's article on this at the Editorium. Go to
Editorium.com, click Newsletter, then the link from the News from the
Newsletter Archive area. You can then search for the term "separator."
