How do I setup switching between multiple open excel files in same window?

N

Niteowl

Hi all,

In Office Pro 97 and 98 using Word and Excel, there used to be a way to
switch between multiple open files in the same window by simply clicking on
a tab that sat at the bottom of the program's window, it may have been a 3rd
party program originally, but I do believe MS added that as a feature at
some point.

I am now using Office Pro 2003 under XP Pro, and trying to find that feature
in Excel, and will want it in Word also... does it still exist? I couldn't
find it in the help files.

Thanks,
niteowl

thanks Milly,

Alt+Tab switches between windows, but each still has it's own distinct
window... I'm looking to have ONE window and when I choose the file I want
to look at - have it appear, used to be tabs across the bottom similar to
taskbar, but inside the Word or Excel program itself.

I can maximize the file window, but the icons still appear in my windows
taskbar instead of being inside the Excel program.

Did this feature disappear after Office 97??

thanks,
niteowl

Bob,

Ctrl+Tab switches between the window IN the program, while Alt+Tab switches
between all open programs... still not what I'm looking for..

the old addon program was called Switchbar, and put tabs on the bottom of
the Word or Excel windows... and would display the different files in one
window instead of stacking them on top of one another.

I've googled everything I can think of, and it just no longer seems to be
out there... as I said, this was originally an Ofc Pro 97 addon...

I'm not giving up... I'll keep looking.

thanks for the suggestion.

If you want something to click on put a Check on the "Windows in
Taskbar" option in Excel and Word.

yes, that was already checked... maybe that's how they "re-featured" the
newer versions?

I want the tabs to check, I just don't want them taking up space in my
taskbar. I'll keep looking, perhaps what I want no longer exists.

Your other choice is to click Window on the menu and then pick from the
list there.
