How do I shade certain time periods on the gantt chart?

I am developing a schedule and i want to show all future plant shutdown times
as a different background shading between the shutdown start date and end
date on the gantt chart. That way, I can very easily see what task are set
to occur during the plant shutdown periods. So, is it even possible to do
something like this, if so, how, if not, any suggestions on how best to
present plant shutdowns?

Hi KLS,

A couple of options you could use.

Draw a rectangle using the drawing toolbar and shade the rectangle. This
option is somewhat kludgy and requires a fair amount of resizing of the
rectangle.

Another option is to create a calendar (Tools > Change working time, new)
and mark the plant shutdown period as nonworking time in the calendar. Set
the nonworking time display of the Gantt chart to the new calendar using the
steps below:
Format > Timescale to show the Timescale dialog box.
Click the Non-working time tab.
In the Calendar drop-down towards the right side of the dialog box, select
the newly created calendar.
Select a different color and background as desired.
Click OK to close the dialog box and apply the change to the Gantt chart.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

The schedule is not for operations, therefore by shutdown, i dont mean non
working time. Is there a way i can show it without changing the working
times. Just as a visual, and besides drawing the boxes. Thanks for the
quick reply.

Hi KLS,

If you create the *new* calendar and do not set it as the calendar for your
project, it will not affect the schedule of your tasks in any way. I am just
suggesting using the non-working time from the new calendar as the background
coloring for the Gantt chart.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.
