How do I show pictures in master document?

I am working with a master document, which contains sub documents. These sub
documents contain pictures such as diagrams and schematics. When I am viewing
the master document in *outline* or *normal* modes, these pictures do not
display. They do display if I view the document in *print* view, or print it.

How do I make it display these pictures always? The rest of the documents
are showing, with their text and tables; only the picture elements are
missing.

Try opening a subdocument on its own and look at it in Normal or
OutlineView. Most probably you'll see the very same thing, and that
means: your pictures are Shapes, they "float" above or below the text
layer, and only PageLayout/PrintPreview is able to display it.

You may convert your pictures to InlineShapes, which makes placing of
them easier, but limits your "DTP" abilities.
