How do i shut down OneNote ?

I would like to close it to see if it is interfering with another program,
but I cannot find a way to have it exit gracefully. I want the ability to
EXIT the program and not be running the program at all times. Currently there
does not seem to be a way to close the application or stop it unless I KILL
the task (kill.exe) or terminate in the Task Manager.

I have OneNote 2003 SP1 on Windows XP SP2.

It does exactly what is expected ... removes the icon from the tray clutter.
But it doesn't EXIT the program, it remains in the Task List as an active
program.

Sorry, my mistake, when I tried your solution, I had OneNote open in another
area. I closed all OneNote windows, then did "Remove" and its seems to have
exited. Makes me wonder why they didn't just say Exit ...

Thanks.

Did you mean the main OneNote screen (ONENOTE.EXE in Task Manager) or the
Notification Tray icon (ONENOTEM.EXE in Task Manager)?

Ben's instructions will help with the latter, and File | Exit should
terminate the former.

You seem to be confusing the task tray icon with the program. They are
actually two different programs. The task tray icon allows you to quickly
open a smaller window of OneNote. It has enough extra functionality over
and above just double-clicking a normal icon that I let it run in the
background.
