How do I shut off new message sound on spam folder?

I use OfficeXP with Outlook for email. I like the chime to alert me of new
mail, though I get a lot of false positives with regards to my spam folder.
The chime will sound when I get only "new spam" and not any legitimate email.
Is there any way to differentiate between the two email folders?
