how do I sort a file based on one columns info without mixing up

I have a db of names and addresses. each is in a row. how do I alphabetize
the names while still associating that row with the other address info that
it belongs to? When I sort a column it is only sorting that column and
mixing all the names and addresses up.

Are you sure you are using MS Access? In Access, records are records and
sorting records will not mess up the field values.

Jennifer, is this an Access database (which will NOT mess things up) or an
Excel Spreadsheet (containing what Excel misleadingly calls a "database")?
