How do I sort the charted data columns

I have created a spreadsheet and related charts in Excel
2002. The Charts created fine, but I can not figure out
how to sort the data columns in the chart from highest to
lowest. How can I sort the chart columns?
When I select rows in the spreadsheet the SORT button in
the DATA menu is grayed out.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Is the worksheet protected?
To unprotect, choose Tools>Protection>Unprotect Sheet

Are two or more sheets selected? If so, the word [Group] would appear in
the Title Bar at the top of the Excel window.
To ungroup, right-click on a sheet tab, choose Ungroup sheets
