I am trying to cost a residential construction project, the contractors do
not have an hourly rate, but will charge me lump sum cost for the whole job.
I cant figure out how to enter that information.

Hi Iyla_is,

Welcome to this Microsoft Project newsgroup

Lump sums are best entered in the Fixed Cost field. View/Table:Entry/Cost
and enter it into the Fixed Cost cell and accrue as required.

FAQs, companion products and other useful Project information can be seen at
this web address: <http://www.mvps.org/project/>

Hope this helps - please let us know how you get on

lyla,
It sounds like you are working with fixed price bids from the
contractors. In that case use the Fixed Cost field to enter the value.
You can set it up to be front loaded, prorated over the duration, or
back loaded depending on how you want the cost accrued.

Hope this helps.

just to add to Mike's reply - you'll need to be in the Gantt chart view
rather than the Resource Sheet to see the Fixed Cost column.

hi,
If you want to enter a fixed cost for the entire project, click Options on
the Tools menu, and then click the View tab. Under Outline options, select
the Project summary task check box, and then click OK. In the Task Name
field, select the project summary task (project summary task: A task that
summarizes the duration, work, and costs of all tasks in a project. The
project summary task appears at the top of the project, its ID number is 0,
and it presents the project's timeline from start to finish.). In the Fixed
Cost field, type a cost for the project.

Regards,
Haris
