How do I split a screen and edit two or more documents at once?

I can do the split with the same document, but not two documents. This
seems like an ordinary thing to do, no? Using Word 6.0 on Windows 2000.

Nick, open the two documents then Window, Arrange all. This will place both
documents one above the other on your screen.

But when I do that I get all these tool bars and boarders for both
screens and on a laptop it is way too crowded. Can't I just split the
dam screen and toggle back and forth between them, on two diffeent
documents? This used to be a standard feature of XYWrite and other
word processing programs a dozen years ago.

Nick my response to that situation is that I close all the toolbars I don't
need. Annoying, but fact of Microsoft life.

This is, apparently a MDI vs. SDI issue. But for WORD 2000 there is a
macro floating around thatlets you do what I want it to do. Even if I
close all the toolbars, I still have the borders. MDI allows one frame
with different documents inside and it was the industry standard until
the late 90s. WordPro still uses it and I hear XP has it as an option.
But I hate XP, so .... Getting a MAC soon, anyway, so I'll no longer
have to worry about crap like this.
