I have a 2008 diary in excel that opens up automatically on Startup. I have
now created a new 2009 diary in excel which also starts up automaically but
how do I stop the old 2008 diary from opening up?
I've spent many hours in "Excel help" to no avail. I have xp pro
Thank you

You probably have both those files stored in your XLSTART folder or in
Tools>Options>General "At startup, open all files in"

Move the 2008 diary out of whichever folder it is found in.

I personally do not have a path in "At startup" folder.

If I want a workbook to open when starting Excel I either store it in the
XLSTART folder or use a command line shortcut to that file.

I prefer the command line shortcut.

See help on startup switches in Excel for proper syntax.

Dord, Thank you for your assistance. It did not quite work out as you explained, as I had deleted the original file. I deleted the files in Open all files as you suggested but the file still opend up on restarting my pc. However this gave me the idea to use the search tool and it eventually found the file. It was just a simple case of deleting the file. Thanks again

Can you tell us where you found the offending file?

I am curious to know why it would have been opening.

Hello Dord, As Bob1 says. It was in the Startup file. I thought I had deleted the file but it was probably recovered "original" or something. I tried to get to the Startup file, but in my ignorance I went via My Computer to try and find the original. I'm learning! Thanks again
