How do I stop AOL from controlling my email preferences?

I have always had my IE configured for Outlook as my default email settings
which worked fine until recently. Now each time I attempt to draft/send an
email while Internet Explorer is active the AOL logon screen appears in an
attempt to force me to send an email via that method. I have checked both my
IE and AOL settings but cannot find anything that causes AOL to override
Outlook mail settings. What should I do to fix this? Thank you.

Uninstall AOL.
