How do I stop Entourage from importing 10years of old email without deleting the originalemails?

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have been using YAhoo mail for a long time and have a backlog of tens of thousands of emails. I linked this account to Entourage and it takes endless hours to open as a result. I really don't need the last 9 years in email on this exchange, though I want to keep the old emails safe with Yahoo.

How do I exclude old emails from the exchange so it doesnt slow down my computer and indefinitely hold up the opening of entourage?

Move them into a subfolder using the Yahoo! web site. You can keep the
messages, but they don't need to be in your inbox.
