How do I stop Excel 2003 from freezing?

When I am using Excel 2003 half the time it freezes on a cell and then
doesn't allow me to move from that cell. The cursor will move, but stays
anchored on that cell. But essentially, I can;t do anything in the program. I
have to hit Ctr - Alt - Del to get out. Then I have to restart to stop the
problem and I have 50/50 chance it won't happen when I reboot.

I am running:
XP Professional Version 2002
Excel 2003
