How do I stop Excel converting (R) to ®?

I am trying to replicate a document that has (R) but every time I type it in
I get ®. Is there a way to stop Excel converting (R) to ®?

Hi,

Tools|Auto correct and delete the auto correct option for (R)

However, I think this is a global office setting and not limited to Excel so
this may be a problem in (say) Word.

Paul,

You can selectively stop it from making the change with Undo. Unfortunately, at least in
Excel 2003, if the (R) is the last thing in the cell, you don't get the chance -- you have
to do the Undo before you've pressed Enter.
