How do I stop Excel from changing (R) to ®

I am entering a list of part numbers in an excel spreadsheet. The numbers
are of the following format:

BBB11A(R)B11111B

The B and 1 characters change with the part numbers. When I enter the
string (or modify one), excel takes the (R) and changes it to ®. How do I
stop this from happening? Thanks.
