How do I stop Excel from simplifying fractions?

I am trying to record various statistics for my softball team. I want to
show the number of hits/total times at bat, then the batting average. If I
but in a fraction that can be simplified (12/16) then Excel automattically
simplifies it, when causes me huge problems because I can no longer tell how
many times a person has batted. I am using Excel 2003.

Record hits and times at bat in two columns, and use a 3rd column to display
their batting average (which you compute by dividing entries in the hits
column by entries in the at-bat column.
