How do I stop forced converstion of attachments to Wordperfect?

Outlook automatically converts Word attachments to Wordperfect immediately
when they are received in Outlook. How can I stop Outlook from doing this?

Install word and uninstall word perfect?

Save a word document, open Explorer to the folder where you saved it. Right
click on the file and choose open with. Select word and check the box to
always open with this app. If this doesn't work, you'll need to uninstall
WP.
