How do I stop getting linked text boxes?

I am using Word Draw to illustrate one of our manuals with block diagrams.
Sometimes when I copy a text box to change the words I get a text box that
seems to be linked to the first one. If I highlight the second text box to
change the words the first one also highlights and vice versa. If I delete
either one of them, the other deletes also. Then, also, once this starts
happening, even if I put in a brand new text box it comes up already linked
to one of the others with the same words in it. How do I stop this from
happening?

Thank you for the suggestion, however, there is no "link" feature when I
right click. I am using Word 2002. Maybe it's a newer feature?

No it's not a new feature: it was introduced when textbox links were
introduced. You have to click the edge of the textbox, not within it. If the
textbox has no link, the menu option is "Create textbox link"; if it is
linked, the option is "Break forward link".

If text is flowing from one textbox to the next, then they *are* linked.

Or are you perhaps dealing with frames?
